It is becoming more and more difficult to find a moderately priced hotel in any big American city. Places like Los Angeles and New York command $200-$300 per night and higher for any hotel room in the downtown area. For most people of families this is just not an option. Fortunately, there are still a few major cities where prices can be found that are far more reasonable and one of these cities is in Space Town, also know as Houston. Find an inexpensive or even cheap Houston hotel is not difficult at all. And I am not talking about the roach motel. I am talking about names like Holiday Inn and La Quinta. In fact, at the downtown Houston La Quinta Inn charges rates start as low as $49 per night on a weekday and $69 per night on Friday & Saturday. That is a great deal on a hotel room just about anywhere not to mention in a major downtown area like Houston with plenty to see and do. Check it out if you are planning to be in the area.
Next we head to the other side of the globe to the historic little Bavarian town of Oberammergau. This city is famous for a few things, but the Oberammergau Passion Play tops the list. This play is performed every 10 years by most of the inhabitants of the town as they reenact the Passion of Christ in a play that draws tens of thousands of visitors from around the world. The origins of the play lie in medieval times when the inhabitants of Oberammergau played to God to save them from bubonic plague and promised God that they would perform the Passion of Christ as a play if He did save them. Legend has it that they were indeed saved and the play has been performed every 10 years now for the past 375 years with only a couple of exceptions. If you plan to visit Oberammergau there are an abundance of hotels in Oberammergau, but the best is probably the Hotel Alte Post. This is a classic Bavarian Inn complete with Black Forest fairy tale scenes decorating the walls of the Inn. You will not be disappointed.
