For many of us, it is time to begin decorating our homes in preparation for the holiday season. If you are like most of us, you still have the old, traditional Christmas lights that you have been using for years. The Halloween decorations are likely just as old and tired. This may be the perfect time to think about upgrading to solar holiday lights.

Decorating your home for the holidays can be a lot of fun, but it can also be a huge hassle. You have to replace bulbs for burned out lights, run power chords everywhere, your electric bill goes through the roof – not to mention that you are always nervous when it rains! None of those problems exist with solar holiday lights, but do they look good?

Solar lighting technology has come so far in just the last couple of years that manufacturers have release a huge assortment of solar lighting styles – including Halloween and Christmas lights. For Christmas you have options like:

Solar Net Lights – Solar Net Lights have solar powered LEDs that turn on at night and off during the day. They are strung together in the shape of a net so that they can be used to cover a shrub or bush. You can expect about 8 hours of light a night with these.

Solar Christmas Lights (string lights) – These come in a string of (usually) 50 lights. They are perfect for using just about anywhere you need to string lights, like: hand railings, trees, fence posts, etc. They also have a daylight sensor that turns them on and off at the appropriate times.

Solar Multicolor LED Christmas Lights – These are a lot like the Solar string lights above, but are multicolor. They also have daylight sensors and 50 LED bulbs.

Blue Snow Flake Solar Lights – These are very pretty lights that come in a 20 light string. They are reported to be very bright and are inexpensive (about $8). I have read reports where they may have some longevity issues, but they are from a reputable company. Their pricing makes them tough to overlook. They are also extremely bright. They may be worth looking into.

Here are some examples of some solar Halloween lights:

Solar Halloween Lighted Carved Pumpkin Jack-o-lantern Decoration – This is a solar power smiling Jack-o-lantern decoration for a front lawn or porch. It is about 8″ in diameter and has a daylight sensor that lights it up at night and turns it off during the day.

Halloween Sound Activated Rocks GO BACK or BOO Yard Decorations – These are 9.5″ by 6 by 4 rocks that light up at night with a greeting for visitors. Choose either “Go Back” or “Boo”. They are, of course, solar powered and have a daylight sensor.

Solar Powered Halloween Skull Decoration – This is a “skull” version of the jack-o-lantern decoration. It’s about 10″ in diameter.

All of these decorations come with the advantage of being solar powered. None of them need to be connected to an electrical source. They are all very easy to install. They all come with daylight sensors, so there is no need to connect them to a timer, and all have a run time of about eight hours or so. The best part is that none of them will cause you to have a high electricity bill.

There are many more types and styles of solar holiday lights, but I hope I have helped to spark some ideas for you.
