Pregnancy and insomnia go hand-in-hand, unfortunately. Not only are you stressed and overwhelmed, now you can’t sleep, either. Trust me, I’ve been there too.
The worst thing about not being able to fall asleep when you’re pregnant is that you can’t take sleeping pills to help you out, because these will hurt your unborn baby. Instead, you need to focus on relaxing enough to fall asleep.
Your bedroom needs to be as dark as you can get it, and quiet. Wear a sleeping mask or earplugs if you need to. Some pregnant women have found success with aromatherapy candles and classical music, and others with nightly meditation or reading.
You also need to stop interfering with your sleep cycle. Get up at the same time every morning, regardless of whether it’s a work day or night. Your body will adjust after a few days, and will send “tired” signals at appropriate times. Avoid naps longer than an hour during the day, too.
