Helpful Tactics for Whitetail Deer Hunting

Hunting Whitetail Deer can be both exciting and frustrating even for the most experienced hunter. That’s what makes it so much fun. Trying different tactics to figure out the elusive Whitetail to find out who is the better hunter. Before you can play this exciting yet frustrating game you will need to know all the Whitetail Deer Hunting Tactics possible in order to be a worthy opponent for the Whitetail.

Do your homework and go into the woods prepared.

The first thing to understand is that you are going into the Whitetails home. They know every tree, shrub and rock and if something is out of place they know it. Like if you walked into your living room and someone moved your TV to the other side of the room, you would know it. If you plan to put up a stand or blind it is important to set them up about a month or more before you plan to hunt so the deer will get used to having something new in their living room.

It is also important to remember that the Whitetail Deer can hear, see and smell a heck of a lot better than you which puts the Whitetail Deer at a huge advantage when you face him on his home court. This is also what makes hunting the whitetail so exciting. If it was easy it really wouldn’t be fun would it?

If you want this season to be successful you need to learn how to even the odds by improving your hunting skills.

Using scent to cover the human smell and for attracting deer

1. It is most important to first use natural scent control. I live in the country so I hang my hunting cloths outside for a couple of week prior to hunting season, then I put them in an old cooler with pine bows and apples. I don’t put my hunting cloths on until I get to where I plan to hunt, and away from any human scent. I take them off prior to getting back in my car or going in the house. Once I get my hunting cloths on I will spray everything down with a neutral scent cover then try to hunt downwind from the direction from where I believe the deer will be coming from.

2. When using a deer attractant such as a doe in heat scent you want to make it as natural as possible. Just use a few drops at a time. Using too much at once will be out of place and may send your buck the other way.

Staying out of sight

Use camouflage that blend into the area you are hunting
Set up a blind ~ make it blend into the area you are hunting
Tree stand ~ using a tree stand will not only get you off the ground and out of immediate sight of a deer but will also help with hiding your scent.
When setting up your blind or tree stand it is very important to scout an area out first and find proper placement.

There are, of course, many other white tail deer hunting tactics that you can and should learn to improve your chance at hanging a trophy buck on your wall. One of the best sites of information that not many hunters know can be found over at DeerHuntingSecrets.info.
