As struggling golfers, we desperately need to learn how to make more putts. And we absolutely need to improve our chipping. In a round of golf, over 50% of our strokes are made with our putter and chipping clubs. But are we spending 50% of our practice time on our short game? Most likely, the answer is “no.”
We normally get to the course and head for the range. We blast a bunch of balls with our $400 driver, hit a few irons, and then it’s off to the first tee. Too bad that half of our shots this day will be hit with clubs that never saw any practice time at all. And our score will probably be a reflection of our poor putting and chipping.
We may never be able to hit monster drives like Tiger, and we may never have a slow, flowing tempo like Freddie Couples, but we can certainly get a lot better with our chipping and putting. And that’s the way we can seriously lower our scores. Maybe 10 or more strokes per round!
