Irish tartan kilts are something that many people think of as a skirt. However, what you might not realize is that the Irish tartan kilts have a rich history as well and are not a skirt. Why do it have to be an Irish Kilt, or Scottish Kilt? Why Welsh, or even Breton, Manx or even Galician? These are all celtic tribes that similar skirt-like clothes that came from the old age of Rome, and the older empires of North Africa. They were simple, no where as tailored and built as the Scots perfected them in the 1800 century, and then taken about which all the other tribes so speak did their thing with them.
I suppose what I am saying is that you do no necessary have to be Irish, or any celtic to really enjoy a Kilt. The word Kilt is Scottish. The Irish word had two names for them that did not stick.
Now we live ages from that time, most likely bred with all kinds of others, just as the Scots and other celts were doing in their days of wars and commerce. Yes, we still have the history, but come on, we enjoy kilts because we like them. Some don\’t, but overall Kilts are pretty cool, and only for certain people. Many wish they had the ability to don a kilt, but most do not want to risk, just as they do not want to risk anything else.
I think kilts, whatever flavor, whatever tartan are exciting. I even like the self-color ones that have no tartan at all, maybe even canvas or other materials besides wool. Now we even have all these alternative kilts such as the UK, which is a dramatic descent from the traditional kilt, but it does have pockets, and easy to wear, not to mention care for.
