Housetraining your puppy sometimes seems like a terribly frustrating process. Who do you listen to – your boss at work whose puppy ate a remote battery when unattended, or your neighbor whose dogs bark endlessly when you get near the property line?
After reading Internet material and books, and watching videos, my conclusion is that there are several untruths about housetraining your puppy.
Here they are in no special order:
Crate Training Is Cruel
If a crate is used correctly as a housetraining tool, it will expedite housetraining your puppy.
Housetraining Is Easy
If it were easy, everyone would be successful, and that just ain’t so.
You Can Housebreak Your Pup in 7 Days
So some books say, but do you really believe it’s possible for a puppy who’s not reached the maturity to control bowel and urinary functioning?
A House Training Schedule Is Worthless
You cannot housetrain without a schedule. Most people try to remember all the activities. Why not write it down and stop “trying” to remember.
You Don’t Need To Understand Dog Behavior
If you do not understand dog behavior. you’re not going to be successful housetraining your puppy. For example, using a crate as a dog prison demonstrates ignorance of dog behavior.
