Last Christmas my wife decided I would build her a shed the following summer and got me the sheds and garages plans book as a present. Okay, I got cheated on that gift for sure but truth be told, it was exactly what I needed.
I’m the kind of guy who just jumps into projects with a picture in my head of what the completed project should look like but with nothing in writing… or drawing. As in plans or a working blueprint.
Not a good idea my friends, especially for a large project like a shed. If you do not have detailed drawings before you begin you are just asking for trouble. You also need a complete material list so you can budget properly and you need to know what size to cut all your wood so it goes together properly.
There are other considerations like site location, venting, electrical service, security and maintenance of your shed. Lots of things to consider before you ever break ground and since you probably have not built a shed before it is a good idea to get a bit of an education before starting such a project.
A good book such as the Dummies series of books is a great place to start but if you have any building experience at all a good set of plans will do you just fine. Make sure they were put together by a professional and will conform to your areas building codes.
It took a few weeks to complete my shed and I can say without a doubt it would have been impossible ad I just jumped into the project with no real planning. I would have ended up with an inadequate, unsafe and unattractive building that would not have lasted long at all.
