The Snowman – A Temporary Snow Sculpture.

When the snow is new it is usually too powdery and dry to make a snowman. It then becomes heavy, somewhat moist, and is compactible so a snowball rolled along becomes larger and larger as the snow adheres to itself. When two or three balls are piled on top of each other, sticks for arms, a carrot for the nose, and, traditionally, lumps of coal for eyes are added. A hat and a scarf are often used to complete the snowman.
