Almost every dollhouse lover is madly chasing the trend of buying expensive dollhouse furniture which can almost burn a hole in the pockets. I don’t deny that exclusive dollhouse furniture have artistic value for the collector. It’s fair enough to buy expensive and rare dollhouse furniture pieces for collection. But tell me how wise it to fritter money carelessly while purchasing furniture for children?

The relevance of dollhouse furniture for children is not more than a plaything. As long as they are interested in the play, they value it, afterwards you will find those expensive toys idling somewhere in the boxes. However, you can buy expensive dollhouse furniture for them as and when they mature and ready to take-up dollhouse collection as a hobby.

I remember how my 3 year old niece almost squashed the collectible Victorian couch I bought her for hefty 30 dollars. I literally pulled my hair and drowned into self pity of gifting such a valuable thing.

Obviously, kids are not to be blamed here!

Kids will be kids, if you are expecting sensitivity from them, trust me you are the fool of first order (don’t mind!).

So, it was then the idea of creating dollhouse furniture from everyday objects triggered in my mind. In this article I will share a few things about dollhouse furniture making, I learnt with the course of time. Come let’s share the joy of creating goods from the modest household trash.

Are you about to throw your empty roll-on deo cans? Wait a second!

Its plastic protector can be used as a sink…just take a look! Isn’t it?

Now how about using wrapping paper on walls, some scrap cloth can do up the curtains. Cut some tiny pictures from greeting cards or old picture books to be hung as a painting on the wall.

Scan your home for some small cardboard boxes; just add a little support, floral cloth etc. and they can make wonderful chairs for your dollhouse. Paint boxes to make them appear like kitchen appliances. However, I would suggest you to use a sturdy tape or good quality glue so that it remains durable.

To make tables from food canisters, draw table-legs along the circumference and then cut it out. To make your table even more interesting you can cover it with glass gems or some scrap velvety fabric. Reuse your empty Velveeta boxes to make your Barbie lay.

Hold on…don’t rush yet! There is a lot more to come, just read on…

Some time ago I used to throw away empty matchboxes in receptacles like everyone does. But when I gradually got involved into dollhouse making, I discovered that matchboxes can make brilliant dresser drawers. All it needs is little wrapping and colorful beads to serve as knob.

I’m sure all you moms have old makeup kits. You can use emptied trays for dollhouse accessories like photo-frame or kitchen trays. Used toothpaste and lotion caps can be used as lampshades or flower vases. Toothpick or ear-buds can make for a mop handle. Walnut shell can be used as baby’s cradle.

Well, I still have lot more to share but for now use these tips and tricks and see what a fantastic dollhouse furniture you can make from everyday things. Enjoy!
