What is Fibromyalgia? Fibromyalgia is a painful condition that causes widespread pain throughout the body. It also causes extreme fatigue, sleep disorders, depression and digestive disorders. While Fibromyalgia causes these painful symptoms it doesn’t do any harm to your organs.
They sometimes call Fibromyalgia the invisible disease. They call it this because there is no lab test that can confirm this condition. The American Medical Association didn’t even recognize the disease until 1987. There are still no answers as to what causes Fibromyalgia.
In order to be diagnosed with Fibromyalgia your doctor will need to rule out other similar conditions first based on your symptoms and test results. Once this is done your doctor will then need to check your “tender points”. Most people that are diagnosed with Fibromyalgia have pain in at least 11 out of the 18 tender point sites.
As of today there is no cure for fibromyalgia nor is there a treatment that is a 100% effective. However some people have found some relief through exercise, proper diet and medications.
