NAB 2009 MTD Systems At The Show
NAB 2009 promises to be the show where, more than ever, attendees focus on ROI (return on investment). Our customers never come to us and say “I’ve saved 25%” over last year or anything like that.
What our (major market) customers say is:
“we’re not putting black on the air instead of the spot anymore.” That was happening three or four times a month for them and media tracking insured the material for playout was where it needed to be.
Another: “our news room system used to sometimes crash during the news.” MTD Monitoring found the underlying causes and allowed the customer to get the issues addressed – and while they were being addressed MTD was able to provide mitigation that immediately increased uptime by 900% and avoid the crashes in the news.
We have worked with manufacturers
A manufacturer was spending tens of thousands of dollars a month on on-site support for problems in their product. Due to the nature of large distributed processing systems they were unable to get a handle on what was happening. Again when monitoring was installed there was a quick understanding of where and what the problems were and a resolution first by mitigation followed by long term fixes to the product.
Satellite Distribution, and video conference:
Satellite distribution has it’s own challenge, thousands of sites, how long do you have to wait to learn that the receivers are on channel and locked – or i they have a problem? This takes hours with traditional systems, we typically do it in 5 minutes.
What is the ROI of playing a commercial instead of black, of not having an anchor with egg-on-the-face, of reducing budget hemorrhage, of knowing the state your system is in when you need to know it?
MTD Systems is putting forth an enhanced line up of Broadcast Systems, Digital Cinema, and Satellite Distribution Systems Monitoring Products at NAB 2009. Enhancements include extensions to support monitoring huge Satellite distribution and Digital Cinema systems along with support for broadcast enterprise operations from program distribution systems through to the transmitter including media tracking – you can know that your material is in place to play. “There have been both core improvements and enhancements in every part of our product line: MTD Sentry, MTD Central, and MTD Track” announced Dave Tansek, CEO of MTD Systems. With MTD you can take your NOC anywhere.
MTD provides various views and drawings to describe the monitored system allowing drill down from a high level view to a specific system, to a specific device. Icons change according to the alert level in the system. MTD enhances this with “Halo.” Halo allows operators and engineers to add specific notes about the issues on the device giving visibility at the drawing and device selection level. Devices alerts can be mapped into the MTD root cause analyzer allowing specific devices and alerts to bubble up with related messages tagged with it.
This information along with device error information is available as a web service for export to a trouble management system allowing easy filing of trouble tickets. It’s a new threshold for network monitoring with massively parallel scanning and media tracking.
