If you want to compare dog foods so that you can give your dog the best possible chance of an active, healthy and above all long life, then unless you are feeding your dog on a natural type of diet prepare to feel very angry.
Commercial dog food manufacturers have used slick marketing and very cleverly worded labelling to mis-lead us into buying their product, and to get us thinking that we are giving our dogs the best food we can. When in fact we are doing nothing more than slowly poisoning our beloved animals.
The first thing is that any food whether it be tinned food or dry food must contain preservatives in order to give it a shelf life, secondly when you are buying tinned food spend a few seconds reading the label, here’s an example of what to look for. A very well known maker of tinned dog food advertises on the tin saying it’s food is “made with fresh meat” and it’s “100% complete”. When you read the label it contains Min 4% fresh Meat, 7% protein, 2% ash ? and moisture 80%.
You see if you read between the lines on the label it says it’s made WITH fresh meat not FROM fresh meat, and there are guidlines as to the minimum amount of meat it must contain depending on how it is described !!. Ridiculous .
And it is similar for dry dog foods with added minerals, colorants (so that it looks attractive to us!), and preservatives.
If you want to keep your dog in tip-top condition for its whole, longer, life then you need to feed your dog recipes that enhance the health, not feed it chemicals that can eventually lead to chronic illnesses, frantic trips to the vet, expensive vets bills, anguish, and death.
