The secret of weight loss and better health is eating fewer calories per day. (By the way, it’s also an anti-aging strategy.) Cutting calories will be easier if you eat hearty, low calorie food. You won’t feel hungry and be tempted to overeat.
Here are five ways to cut calories and lose weight:
- Lose 1 pound a week by shaving 500 calories from your daily diet. Bulk up with salads, chunky soups and water or tea before your meal.
- Add new satisfying snacks to your daily eating routine. Try these: baked potato, pieces of fruit, brown rice cakes, whole grain toast with hummus, English muffin with fat-free cream cheese.
- Substitute a protein shake for your usual breakfast. If you don’t eat breakfast, start now.
- Volumize your food by filling up your plate with salad greens and placing smaller portions of protein and carbs on the salad.
- Take out unrefined foods (white flour, table sugar, white rice) and swap out for unrefined foods high in fiber, vitamins and anti-oxidants (brown rice, fruit, whole potatoes, beans and legumes).
