This is an all too common problem among Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, and many athletes that require jumping high to be competitive. Its very frustrating to any athlete that trains hard and consistent, and never reaches the level they know they should be able to. They don’t understand why other athletes that are shorter, and maybe don’t train as hard, out jump them by 6-8 inches and even more.

The sad part is that its not that they don’t train hard, or that their not consistant. In most cases its because they didn’t take control over their training program. The first thing you have to do is know exactly what is expected of you, and you need to understand a few aspects of training. There are basic elements that have to be followed to achieve your full potential and ability.

You need to have the knowledge of the principles involved in your training. Without the fundamental knowledge of the principles used to train, you could be training areas of the body that are not effective for your purpose.

Next you have to know what techniques you should be involved with. The wrong techniques can be of little use. You have to train smarter and that will make you want to train harder.
The proper exercises to help your overall gains are what you have to use. Exercise alone will never allow you to accomplish you full potential. There is not one aspect to understand. You must know how all 9 aspects relate to each other, what each muscle group does and how to train each area to achieve your fullpotential and ability.

Nutrition is the most overlooked aspect of any training program and the most important. Most athletes understand that without the proper nutrition, you risk serious injury. Its the correct nutritional diet that builds your muscles, not exercise. You could train very hard without the proper nutrition and never strengthen your muscles, which could leave you injured, just during your training.

This is just a short summary of what it takes to train to jump higher. If your not jumping in the 40-45 inch range, your not jumping to your ability and full potential. Don’t give up on yourself. If you have good joints, there’s no reason why you can’t jump with the best athletes you compete with. Learn the correct way and you’ll be dunking the Basketball with 2 hands, and blocking that Volleyball spike attempt.
