Dog Training Tip #1

You need to understand that dogs are pack animals. This means they are social animals and like to live in groups. The alpha dog manages the pack.

You need to show your dog from day 1 that you are the alpha dog. You need to be firm and consistent with her.

Dog Training Tip #3

Leash train your dog. Get a training collar or a pinch collar if needed. When she doesn’t obey the command “snap” the leash. This feels like the mother’s nip when she is disciplining her pup.

Dog Training Tip #4

Alpha dog behavior includes making sure you go first. If you are taking her outside for a walk, you go through the door first, not her. Only the alpha dog leaves first.

Dog Training Tip #4

Don’t let your dog disobey you. When you do, this tells her she is the alpha dog. This is where consistency comes in.

Make her wait for her food. Have her sit while you place the food in front of her, then release her. Only the alpha dog eats first.

The dog food recall really scared me, I’m sure among many others. The majority of dog foods on the shelves were recalled because Melamine was found in them. More than 150 brands were involved.

Melamine is used as fertilizer among other things, and is not labeled for human or animal consumption.  After the dog food recall and learning about where the melamine came from and how it made it into the food, I decided enough was enough.  I had to find alternatives to the “crap” that I had been serving my best friend.

I investigated  the popular “premium” brands and their ingredients.  They are nasty.  Half of them you can’t even pronounce the ingredients.  There are way to many preservatives, not to mention the other disgusting things they put into it.  It has been found that humans who eat lousy, end up with shorter and sicker lives.  Why would I do this to my best friend?  She is there to give me companionship and unending love.  Why would I want to treat her like crap?  I certainly wouldn’t!  I needed to change my ways and fast!  I didn’t want her to lose any more precious time than she already did!
